Preliminary conclusions
Films: Hot fuzz(15) Witchcraft(18) Rocky 3(PG)
The characters in these films have the same thing in common which is that all of them had a part to play in the directing and story of the film as well as the acting, particually the main characters. In hot fuzz, Simon Pegg playing the role as Nicholas Angel uses particular reactions, such as facial expressions and general movement, to suggest genre and mood for the rest of the film. He is a serious man and as the film goes on you get to know his character more and more. With the use of his "sidekick" Nick Frost playing the character as PC Danny Butterman is when you realise it is a comedy as his movement and gestures suggest otherwise. This cliché of a serious person and a funny person creates a comedic clash and in turn provides a much more entertaining experience for the potential market. In comparison to the film witchcraft the main characters all have a very serious attitude and it is immediatly shown that this is a serious film.
Witchcraft, being set in 1982, shows an interesting insight to what life was like in those days and puts a perspective in comparison to hot fuzz being set in 2007, you can immediately tell that hot fuzz is more modern by the quality of film, quality of sound and the use of editing. Obviously technology was much more advanced then than before and creates the concept of what witchcraft would of been like if it was film now instead of then. In rocky 3 the time was even further back to 1982 which puts in perspective of the limited technology in comparison to 2007. Both hot fuzz and witchcraft were set in the countryside sort of area whereas rocky 3 was mainly set in the town and in comparison the mis en scene was much more lively in rocky 3 than it was in both the other two. The music in witchcraft ,compared to the other two, was quite ominous to create a spooky effect and to elaborate on the genre a bit more whereas as rocky 3's music was much more upbeat and go-getting.
The only film with particular special effects were the witches in witchcraft to create the "magic" effect. The colours as they were doing the spells was vibrant which makes a change from your typical horror movie as they are usually dull colours. The idea of good vs evil was strongly recolsiliated within witchcraft as there was your typical good main character with the witch being the bad side. In comparison to the other films rocky was good and his rival boxer was bad and with hot fuzz it turned out that all the people Simon Pegg thought were good turned out to be bad.
